Mantled Howler Monkey (Alouatta palliata)

Matapalo Hike- (6am-12pm)—This hike, includes Private transportation (45 minutes each way), water, and snacks. We will be hiking in the largest private reserve in the country. Commonly seen are monkeys (4 species), sloths, toucans, macaws, etc. The hike can be hard or easy, depending on your needs.

Chestnut Mandibled Toucan (Ramphastos swainsonii )

Bird Walk- (6am-9am, or 3pm-6pm) This hike includes water and snacks. We begin from your hotel and walk around Puerto Jimenez looking for different bird species. These are the recommended times, but can be done any 3 hours of the day

(Catasetum maculatum)

Herrera Botanical Gardens- (Best time 6am-9am for birds and mammals) This hike includes water and snacks. Located on the east side of the Puerto Jimenez airstrip, it sits on 260 acres of reclaimed cattle land. 14 kilometers of forested trails and 4 kilometers of garden trails make this the largest botanical garden/reforestation project in the area. Wildlife, gardens, and lots of information on rainforest dynamics. A perfect near town adventure.

Olive Tree Frog (Scinax elaeochroa)

Night Walk- (4pm-7pm) Night time is a great time to see Bats, Snakes, Spiders, frogs, owls, kinkajou, among other things. This tour includes water and a light snack. You will need to bring a flashlight.
